DJ’s mom is hosting a shower for me in August, along with two bridesmaids. (The third is out of state and also planning a wedding, so definitely off the hook.) DJ's mom is really excited about it, mostly because she wants to use a set of girly luncheon dishes she bought some time ago but hasn’t had occasion to use. How cute is that? I love her.
BUT. She’s asking me for a guest list, and I am terrified. It’s not that I have no friends (I do, really.) It’s not that I’m stage shy of opening gifts in public (I am, but that’s not it.)
The thing is – my, this is embarrassing – once I threw a party and no one came. No one! I’m that girl. People said yes, no one showed.
That can’t happen twice to one person, right? Right? Let's not even get into my bachelorette/hen party fears.
* To the tune of Thank You For Being a Friend, also known as the Golden Girls' theme. No wonder no one showed?

Omg, that sucks. It can't happen twice. It can't. That would be an unusually cruel joke by the Universe.
I so have this fear! I used to always throw parties with other people, so I wouldn't be solely responsible if no one showed up. I did have one shower that was poorly attended, but it was mainly because I had three other showers (why four showers? It's a long story. Short answer: not my idea.) and there weren't that many guests left to invite. Mr. Spy was invited to that one, so it was us and his mom and our friends who threw the shower and we actually had a great time just hanging out and eating all the food. So, what I'm saying is, this won't happen to you. But even if it did, how bad would it be really? Not bad. So have fun and let your mother-in-law enjoy her dishes. And if I might say so, she sounds perfect for you.
I don't think you'll have any issues this go round!
She can invite me. I will come...
Thanks for the sympathy, everyone! It's funny now. Really.
LPC, I think you would like the party she is planning, actually. And we could have that awkward moment of making up a non-internet backstory!
It will be wonderful. I am a performer by trade and I got REALLY nervous for my showers, especially the one thrown by HH2B's mom. There's just something a bit scary about being the center of attention!
People will show up for you. And if not, they will send lovely gifts, so win-win. Also, true story: I threw a party in college that was attended by TWO people.
OK. We will pretend we met at some kind of industry conference. Usually when you say the words industry conference everyone runs away and asks no more questions.
